Sea Turtle Mornings

For the past several summers, I have been lucky to spend time at Debordieu Beach, where one of my favorite things to do is look for turtle tracks on early morning walks.

This year, the nesting season has been quite busy. What a week we chose!

No turtles in sight during the daylight, but plenty of nighttime activity, as evidenced by the flipper marks that look like tire tracks heading up the beach. My favorite sight — the turtle tracks that looped around a tree before finally leading to the nesting site. Another favorite moment — coming across the Turtle Ladies just as they finished relocating a nest. What a fantastic, dedicated group!

Some days are quieter than others. But there’s always something magical about a morning beach.
