Foo Dog

The Year of the Dog is into full swing. So this week I thought I’d feature the neighborhood foo dog.

Foo dog is just another name for the guardian lions of China — those majestic statues that traditionally guarded imperial palaces and temples, but now sit outside hotels and restaurants, as well. When I was in China, I took plenty of pictures of those fearsome guardian lions.

Let’s see if you can tell which of the pictures below are the guardian lions in China…and which picture is the foo dog that stands guard in our neighborhood.
