See Rock City

I love old American roadside attractions and amusement parks. One I haven’t been to yet is Rock City, near Chattanooga. This attraction gained fame through an ingenious marketing campaign that involved painting “See Rock City” on the roofs of barns along the highways. Some of these barns still exist. In fact, there are a few painted roofs in my neighborhood.

OK, so in my neighborhood, they’re bird feeders. But the nostalgia in me still loves the fact that they’re here.

One day I hope to see Rock City. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with pictures of an old North Carolina amusement park I have managed to visit in recent years — Santa’s Land, in Cherokee.
