It\u2019s George, and she\u2019s using her favorite expression. How do we know it\u2019s her favorite expression? Well, first of all, she uses it excessively. And second, author Carolyn Keene repeatedly tells us so.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHypers!\u201d George exclaimed, using her favorite expression.  \u201cWe found the hijackers!\u201d (Old Stagecoach)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypers!\u201d said George, using one of her pet expressions. \u201cYou slay me!\u201d (Leaning Chimney)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypers!\u201d George cried, using her favorite expletive. \u201cIt worked.\u201d (Haunted Showboat)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, \u201cHypers\u201d is indeed one of George\u2019s favorite expressions. Maybe that\u2019s because it\u2019s so versatile and can be uttered in so many different ways. Just look at all the possible speech tags.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHypers! Look at me! I\u2019m a mess!\u201d George cried out. (Crumbling Wall)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers!\u201d George whistled. \u201cSo you\u2019re calling him Chuck already?\u201d (Ski Jump)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers!\u201d George breathed. \u201cWho locked you in here?\u201d (Wooden Lady)<br \/>\nGeorge hooted. \u201cHypers! He\u2019s no artist, Nancy.\u201d (Wooden Lady)<br \/>\nGeorge burst out, \u201cHypers, Nancy, I\u2019ve just about had heart failure.\u201d (Black Keys)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers! Why didn\u2019t you call me?\u201d George demanded. (Wooden Lady)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers, I can hardly wait to go,\u201d George remarked. (Golden Pavilion)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers! Nancy, it\u2019s too early in the day for riddles,\u201d George complained. (Ski Jump)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers, Nancy,\u201d she scolded, \u201cyou do get mixed up with the strangest characters.\u201d (Black keys)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHypers!\u201d might seem like a simple expression&#8211;but it can be used to convey so many different emotions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHypers!\u201d George cried in disbelief. (Leaning Chimney)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers!\u201d cried George in disgust. (Moonstone Castle)<br \/>\n\u201cHypers, this is a record for buying a car!\u201d she said, laughing. (Hidden Window)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you want to shout \u201cHypers!\u201d out loud, you can. But you don\u2019t have to. You can even think it loudly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHypers!\u201d George thought in despair. \u201cNow what\u2019ll I do. Nancy\u2019s done a disappearing act, and I\u2019m stranded here without any clothes!\u201d (Crumbling Wall)\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHypers!\u201d is such a simple word, you can easily say it while doing other things:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHypers!\u201d George exclaimed as she gazed at the colorful pictures of mosques and caiques. (Crossword Cipher)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, lest you\u2019re thinking George is a one-note character, be prepared for George to occasionally mix things up:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bess\u2019s eyes grew wide with astonishment and George said \u201cGosh!\u201d and \u201cHypers!\u201d several times. (Leaning Chimney)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, George is good for a surprise or two. In <em>The Phantom of Pine Hill<\/em>, George finds out a stolen coin is worth $2500. That\u2019s certainly worth a \u201cHypers!\u201d or two.
